Clutter:

Scientists have proven that everything in the Universe is made of energy. Atoms, the building blocks of matter, are constantly vibrating. Even the chair you are sitting on is moving! Energy levels of our homes, schools, and offices affect our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. The practice of Feng Shui is about creating a healthy flow of life energy, Chi, throughout your life.

Space clearing (removing clutter) works on a deeper level than regular Feng Shui. It helps to clear and revitalize negative energies that are responsible for many of the difficulties we experience in our lives. Every argument, illness, or negative emotion felt within a structure leaves an energy imprint. (Some people say these energy imprints cause many of the “ghosts” people think they feel in their homes.) This is usually strongest in the corners of a room. This affects the flow of energy in the entire building. Stagnant energy can also be created by clutter in a room.

Clutter affects your energy level and can eventually affect your health. It accumulates slowly and you may not notice the effects as they begin to build. (Think about how good you feel after you’ve cleaned your home.) Clutter affects your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Suze Orman says clutter can even affect the flow of money into your life. Too much clutter and the money doesn’t have room to come in.

Clutter can represent old idea, beliefs and life patterns that you are holding onto. First notice what type of clutter you are holding onto. Old mail, magazine with diets you never try, romance novels, or broken pieces of old ideas send a clear message to what patterns you are holding onto. Next, check a feng shui bagua chart. This will give you a clue as to which area of your life is stagnant. In other words, what old patterns are causing problems in which area of your life. Junk mail in your wealth corner could represent messages about your finances that you are ignoring!

Now you must begin to clear the clutter. This act of clearing sends a message to your subconscious that you are ready to let go of old issues. Keep a journal documenting the changes that begin to occur in your life.

You can also reverse this procedure. If you seem to be stuck in a specific area of your life, check the Bagua chart and see what area of the room you need to pay attention to. Now look for clutter in that area and begin to remove it.

Once the clutter has been removed you need to clean or purify the space. You can do this by actually cleaning, and then pray over the corner, asking God to heal and purify it. Some people throw sea salt in the corners. Others burn a sage incense stick. Do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

If you’re not certain if you have too much clutter in your home, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do you have stacks of junk mail that you still haven’t sorted through or thrown away?
  • Are there piles of newspapers or magazines in your home?
  • Are your closets full of clothing that you never wear?
  • Do you have ratty, old underwear in your drawer that you can’t seem to throw away?
  • Do you display gifts in your home that you don’t really like so you won’t hurt someone’s feelings?
  • If you need something can you find it quickly?
  • Are your drawers bulging with unused items?
  • Do you have papers waiting to be filed?
  • Are you ever late paying a bill because you can’t find it?If you answered yes to even one of these questions then clutter is affecting your life! Don’t deceive yourself. Even a little clutter can cause havoc in your life.

Decluttering is the first step in reclaiming your health, energy and overall vitality. To consciously let go of “thing” you no longer need shows the Universe you are ready to change. This is one of the most powerful things you can do to change your life.
